Sketch for Dr. Mattioda
I grew up in Hartshorne, a small town in Southeastern Oklahoma. After High School, I attended Eastern Oklahoma State College, where I received my associate of science degree. I majored in chemistry and mathematics at East Central University in Ada, OK obtaining my Bachelors of Science Degree in 1989. Graduate studies took me to the University of Oklahoma (Go Sooners!) and the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, where I studied molecular spectroscopy and proton transport in solids in the laboratory of Dr. Roger Frech. After graduate school, I worked as an environmental chemist for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Tulsa, OK. However since it was my love of outer space that got me into chemistry, I decided to pursue research in space science. It was then that I came upon the Ames Astrochemistry Homepage and the research work of Dr. Douglas Hudgins. After several e-mails and phone calls, I submitted a proposal to the National Research Council for a post-doctoral position. The rest, they say, is history.
In addition to research, I enjoy teaching. I have taught chemistry classes at the University of Tulsa, Tulsa Community College and Rogers State University.
