Biography:
Joe Roser is currently a research associate with the SETI Institute and is collaborating with the NASA Astrobiology Institute at the Ames Research Center.
Joe is originally from southern New Jersey and is just old enough to remember the Phillies winning the World Series for the first time. He obtained his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Syracuse University in upstate New York. Joe specializes in investigating chemical reactions on cryosurfaces under experimental conditions that mimic those in the interstellar medium and applying these results to astronomical problems. In his graduate years, he was principally researching the recombination of hydrogen atoms on interstellar dust grain analogues (with a side adventure into carbon monoxide/oxygen atom reactions to form carbon dioxide on interstellar ice analogues). Presently, Joe is developing a vacuum system for investigating the infrared spectra of size-selected, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon cation clusters trapped within a noble gas ice matrix.
Joe's major publications can be found on the Astrochemistry Laboratory's Publications Pages.
